·
Take these private documents with you in a separate folder
to each job interview, in case you are given an application to fill out.
·
Do NOT show these to prospective employers or recruiters, or
anyone. They are cheat sheets for your
own private use!
·
These documents are extremely handy to have, are well worth
the time to gather & record the information, and will save you much time
and frustration later.
·
Once these documents have been created, the information is
at your fingertips; you know right where it is.
1. Save a copy
of your resume under this file naming convention or your own:
·
C:\My Documents\Job\My Resume\Keep
Private\Work History 2002-mm-dd Complete.doc or .txt
2. Remove
everything except your work history.
3. Save it.
4. For each
job listed, append:
- Company
addr, ph, fax, url
- Manager,
immediate supervisors, references
each with title, email address, ph#, home phone number in case they change
jobs
- Temporary
agency, addr, ph, fax, url, acct rep, recruiter (if applicable)
- Start
& end pay & job titles
- Real
reason why you left
- Good
reason why you left (and have this well rehearsed)
5. Save and
print it.
- Many sites and job applications want you to rate
your skills, in slightly different formats.
- Save a copy of your http://www.monster.com resume under
this file naming convention or your own:
·
C:\My Documents\Job\My Resume\Keep
Private\Skills Inventory 2002-mm-dd.doc or .txt
- Remove everything except your skills inventory.
- Some want the last year used, others just want
the total years used, so put both on your private copy.
- Add comments.
- Save and print it.
- This is especially handy where you have performed
a skill on and off or part time.

My Functional
Inventory or Areas of Expertise
- The focus here is on functional responsibilities or
application environments or areas of expertise when there are more than
one of these you are interested in pursuing.
- For example, contracting as a Programmer/Analyst
for many years in a variety of application and business environments, or
otherwise moving around a lot.
That way you can add up all the 3 months here and there just once.
- Otherwise, this document is somewhat like your
skills inventory, and may be appended to it instead of creating a separate
document.
- The next time a job opening wants experience on
financial applications, your figures are all ready.
